Summer 2025 - Herbs in the Burbs

Calling Michigan Youth interested in growing and preserving herbs! Do you live in “The Burbs” (one of the top 20 most densely populated Cities in Michigan*)? Do you want to grow herbs for culinary purposes and learn about sustainable food sources? MI-IMPACT will provide admitted youth with everything they need to grow, preserve and use a variety of healthy herbs for their family and community!

Eligibility Requirements: Youth ages 8–24 who are interested in growing and producing herbs from “The Burb” are invited to apply.

*Youth MUST live in one of the following Michigan Cities: Detroit, Grand Rapids, Warren, Sterling Heights, Ann Arbor, Lansing, Dearborn, Clinton Township, Canton Township, Macomb, Livonia, Troy, Westland, Farmington Hills, Shelby Township, Flint, Wyoming, Rochester Hills, Southfield, Kalamazoo.

PLEASE NOTE: For this program, please apply for ONE kit per household. Siblings may share the program materials and complete the project together.

List of Program Materials (Shipped directly to your home):

- Indoor Culinary Herb Starter Kit (seeds, pots, dirt, shears)

- Herb Growing and Preservation Book

- Sustainable Watering Can

- Grow Light (requires electricity)

- Tool Set

PLEASE READ AND CONFIRM THE FOLLOWING REQUIREMENTS BEFORE SIGNING BELOW:

1. I have an appropriate space to grow and maintain plant life in my home.

2. I live in one of the twenty (20) Michigan cities listed above.

3. I have access to a water source to water my plants.

4. I have access to an electrical outlet near my indoor garden.

Application Materials: Provide a picture copy of a valid Michigan parent (or youth) photo ID in a PNG or JPEG format, and a PDF copy of a preferred supporting document. Preferred Supporting Document is a youth report card. If you do not have a report card you may use a community record, church record, state record, extracurricular record, bill, insurance document or any other third-party document with the child’s name, age/grade and address. Self-created documents will not be accepted. Thank you.
